Enchilada såu¢e

Hi!  Today we took dried ancho (pobalano) peppers and took out the seeds.  Then we rehydrated the dehydrated peppers to make amazing sauce for next weeks lunch.

After hours . . .  years  . . . of heated discussion, we arrived at a lunch menu for next week.

We will have:

Dried pears

Polenta pie with meat and cheese and sauce

Coleslaw

Cornbread

Chocolate cupcakes with  rasberries

In class part of the crew read an article on how many people waste food while others starve.  We figured out that about 1 out of 7 people in the world are hungry this morning in our discussion, 1.02 billion overall.  One restaurant in Saudi Arabia decided to fine customers for over ordering, and then give the money to Somalia.  Other restaurants in Hong Kong and Sydney (Australia) are doing the same thing.  It seems like some people eat more than their fair share and waste food, but there could be enough to go around if we were all more careful.  Please be aware of how much food you waste.  At locavores lunch people get small servings to begin with, and get more as needed.  If students don’t like something you can bring it back untouched so it can be used for someone else.  These would be good habits to get into at home… making sure we only eat until we are full!
